Mindset
I I was was recently interviewed on on a a a a a a fitness pod- cast and was was asked how I I find motivation to to work- out The question took me a a a a a a a a a a a bit off-guard because I’m always motivated to to move my my body Whether with with my my my husband (a Daoist Monk) practicing tai chi sword forms or or or with with my my teenage son hiking through the the wilderness seeking out snakes and wild wild animals solo at at the the gym or or or or hot yoga studio There is is nothing more fun or or or or satisfying for me than having my body in in in motion Physiologically our our bodies were designed to to move Pumping fresh oxygen and and blood to to to our our hearts and and and lungs improves their ability to to to func- tion and and to to stave off the the effects o of aging The same is true for our our our brains Simply put we we maxi- mize our our our body and our our our brain brain capabilities when we we stay active We also have more fun Recognizing and embracing that moving your body is is FUN is is what I I I I call my “movement mindset” When I’m I’m I’m active I’m I’m I’m happier and and I’m I’m I’m a a a a a a a a a better version of myself That’s good good for for me me and and that’s very good good for for those around me me I’m a a a a a a a a a better better better better mom a a a a a a a a a better better better better wife a a a a a a a a better better better better boss and and a a a a a a a a better better better better friend when I I incorporate fitness and and movement in in my life What is is important to to to understand is is that we don’t have to to to be be in in in the fitness business business to to to be be active on on on on a a a a a a a regular basis As a a a a a a a business business executive I I spend long hours in in in my office or or or or days on on on end end traveling around the world for work It can be dif- ficult to to fit traditional exercise into such a a a a a a a a sched- ule However with a a a a a a a a a a movement mindset add- ing physical activity to to my day comes naturally Elevator or or or stairs? I take the stairs stairs of of course And keeping a a a a a a a a a pair of of of dumb bells under my desk for a a a a a a a a a quick set

office push-ups midmorning and midafternoon is a a a a a won- derful way for me to be active during a a a a a a a a busy work day When traveling I always carry carry on my bag as as the lifting and carrying is is an an an an easy way to fit in in in some weight resistance and walk- ing ing briskly through the the the airport rather than taking the the the tram or or moving walkway gets in in in a a a a a a a a bit of cardio too Of course nothing beats
a a a a good old fashioned session at the gym gym A gym gym work-out followed by some healthy veggie sushi or or vegan meal makes for a a a a a a better date-night with my husband And we make exercising a a a a a a a a family affair too Outdoor hikes and beach surfing sessions are great ways to stay connected with our teenage son Fitness and movement is fun It’s It’s part of my life It’s It’s what I I I I I I choose not because because I I I I I I should but because because I I I I want to It’s my movement mindset and it works perfectly for me me n n n n NGA NATURAL mag NGA NATURAL mag 29
