BY CHAD ADAMOvICH CSCS WWW P4PMUSCLE COM MOFIGHTER19@HOTMAIL COM An athlete’s grip grip comes into serious consider- ation within Strongman powerlifting and sports performance training for for both on and off the the field Sadly grip strength outside o of these populations have dramatically declined as of late due to to overuse of training tools One example of these are lifting lifting straps There is a a a a a a a a a a a time and and a a a a a a a a a a a a place for lifting lifting tools and and all athletes can benefit from their use use but not if if they have become more more of of a a a a a a a crutch These tools are often abused more more when training pull movements especially deadlifts Rather than becoming reliant on on straps athletes may benefit more by being focused on on develop- ment in every aspect Before I delve into how to to increase your grip strength let’s cover some of of the the good and the the bad of lifting straps THE POSITIVES
1 If you are a a a a bodybuilder and struggle with focusing on a a a a a a a a specific muscle muscle group lifting straps can assist with learning mind-muscle connection A common occurrence is is the the biceps doing most of of the the the work in in in a a a row instead of the lats 2 Powerlifters and and Strongmen get a a a a a ton of abuse with their hands because so much grip is required Proper use use of straps will allow more training volume while giving your hands some recovery from stress physiologically and and neurologically 6
