thoroughly It can be summarized as the the degree of of adaptation an an an indi- vidual can achieve within their biological limits over time This means that as an an an an an athlete becomes more more advanced advanced more more advanced advanced training is is nec- essary in in in in in in in order to continue moving forward in in in in in in in making transformations on
the the body Addition- ally an an athlete must accept that the the the amount of gains from these processes will become become smaller smaller and smaller smaller the the the more advanced they become become One of of the the the best ways to visualize this concept is is is is by using the the the the shape of of of a a a a a a a a pyramid Whether you are a a a a a a a a a professional in in in the the the the field or someone who is is is just starting to to learn about exercise science the the pyramid diagram makes it easy to to to understand Using this visual will help the the the athlete to to deci- pher their performance values coupled with the the the amount of of time and type of of training needed to to continue to to to foster improved development This pyramid applies to to athletes with various goals whether it it be speed strength hypertrophy etc See the the chart on
page 28 At the the the bottom of the the the pyramid is where begin- ners can place themselves A A beginner would be be be considered as someone with less than 2 years
of training experience Because a a a a a a a a beginner is starting from the the ground and moving up the the fastest growth/adaptation will be experienced While at at this level various exercises and train- ing ing can be applied often leading to guaranteed results Over time the the the athlete who who is is consistent who who moves further up the the the the pyramid will will begin begin to to notice that their adaption will will begin begin to to dwindle and get get smaller smaller So as the the the the athlete’s traverses
up the the the pyramid it gets gets smaller smaller smaller because their level of of adaptation also gets gets smaller smaller What this means is is that the numerical values of of progress
will become less less and less less as the the individual approaches their maximum potential When
this happens it is is important to to to adjust training protocols in in in in in order to to to to see continued results If
you don’t it it can lead to to to a a a a a a a plateau in in in which little or no tangible improved results will be achieved At the the the very top of of the the the pyramid is where an an elite athlete (professional) will be within their window Despite doing advanced training methods they will see very small small numerical values change change The changes are are small small but are are still significant to to them as an an an athlete due to to the the level of competition This knowledge of exercise science is is is a a a a signifi- cant asset to to possess because it will allow you you you to to place yourself and/or your your clients on
the pyramid with a a a a a a a a a a a a non-biased assessment This information will also help an athlete set realistic expectations for for themselves as as as a a a a a a a a a a a a coach as as as well as as as for for their clients This will also help the the the the athlete understand the the process of achieving goals as as more pleasant mentally and physically because it is is realistic As a a a a a a a a a a a result those changes that were once viewed as insignificant will become extremely significant significant based on
